FAQ

About us

  • A worker-owned co-op is a business that is collectively owned by its workers, rather than any external boss or investors, and all operations are democratically controlled by the workers. Check out the U.S. Federation of Worker Cooperatives for more info!

  • Communal accountability! We respect each other highly, and we are dedicated to the longevity of our business, so we all hold each other accountable for doing the work, and doing it well. We have committees devoted to running the different part of our business - service, finance, renovations, etc.

  • Nope. (We don’t have those!)

  • Our Falls Road location is in the Station North neighborhood, under the Howard Street bridge. Make your way to Maryland Ave (heading south) and turn right on Lafayette St. Head down the hill, turn right onto Falls Road, and you’ll be at our door in moments.

Alternately, you can hop on Falls Road in Hampden or anywhere further north, and head south until you reach us!

Our Belvedere Square location is in the Belvedere Square shopping center, at the intersection of York Road and Northern Parkway. Turn into the Square from York Road, and we’re on the left - across the street from the Market.

Both locations have plenty of car parking (and bike parking, of course!)

Services

  • Yes! We are a full-service bike shop. We build bikes, provide full maintenance tune-ups, and fix the parts that are broken.

  • Probably! We always ask folks to bring in their bike and any parts they need fixed so that we can examine and diagnose in person. It’s nearly impossible to tell if something can be fixed without putting our hands on it.

  • The first step to getting your bike fixed is to drop by with your bike and any parts you have for an evaluation. You do not need an appointment for this initial diagnosis.

Depending on what you need done, we may or may not book you an appointment from there. Service appointments cannot be made over the phone, or without the bicycle (or parts/wheels/etc.) present.

  • We can fix mechanical components of e-bikes like the brakes, but we cannot fix anything related to the electronic components unless you purchased the bike from us. We don’t have the training or the tools.

We do not fix scooters at all - again, we don’t have the training or tools.

  • Yes! We charge a service fee to disassemble your bike, pack it safely into a bike box, and arrange for it to be shipped through a service called Bike Flights. They offer shipping insurance, too, so you can be sure your bike will arrive safely.

  • Yes! We have a rental fleet of road bikes, commuters, and trail-friendly adventure bikes. We also have two dedicated mountain bikes, a Brompton folding bike, and a Burley kid trailer for rental. Give us a call to make a reservation. Road bikes are at our Belvedere Square location, everything else is at Falls Road. Check here for rates.

  • We are not responsible for bikes left with us for more than 30 days. We will attempt to contact you no more than 3 times in this period, after which point it is considered an abandoned bike. We then reserve the right to dispose of it in any way we see fit. In special circumstances, we can be flexible with this policy once the repair or items have been paid in full.

Products

  • All of that and more! Stop in to browse our selection of products. We stock high-quality, beautiful, and practical bicycle parts and accessories, and we always like to support other small and local businesses.

  • Yes! We build them up whenever we have spare time, so our stock varies a lot, but you can always check our Used Bikes page or our Instagram for updates.

  • Nope. Try Craigslist or the Baltimore Used Bicycles Marketplace.

We will occasionally consider a trade-in of a gently used shop-quality bike for credit towards the purchase of a new bike.

We do take donations of used bikes or parts, but we are a for-profit business, so we fix them up and sell them. If you’re looking to donate them directly (or indirectly) for folks in need, check out Velocipede or BYKE Collective.

  • Buying a bike shop-quality bike gives you assurance that your bike is made of high-quality metal, using high-quality components, and is assembled properly by a professional bike mechanic. You can feel confident that you are getting a bike that is built to last - the components are well-made and are highly serviceable, so you won’t need to replace them as often. Plus, we offer a comprehensive 2-year maintenance policy, so we’ll keep your bike running smoothly for free! We sell bikes because we love them, and we want to get as many people as possible out there, riding good bikes. Big department stores and websites like Amazon sell bikes to make as much money as they possibly can. Department store bikes are so inexpensive because they are just that - cheaply made, cheaply assembled, all by underpaid, inexperienced, and exploited workers.

  • We stock electric bikes from Cannondale, and we can special order e-bikes from other brands - Jamis, Surly, Yuba, Bianchi, Brompton, etc. Call or email if you have something specific in mind.

Same thing for adult trikes - we don’t keep them in stock, but there are a few brands we can access. Give us a call or email!

    We do not sell scooters.

  • We do! Check out our online store to see what’s available.

We do not sell bikes online, but some of our brands sell bikes that can be delivered straight to us for free assembly! Check it out here.

We also sell high-end or rare used bike parts through our eBay.

Falkor

  • Falkor! A former street cat, he wandered through our doors one day in 2013 and never left. He’s a major sweetheart, and will climb into any available lap. He’s named after the luck dragon from the film The NeverEnding Story (1984).

Sadly, Falkor passed away in April of 2023. He will be sorely missed, but his memory will never leave us.
