Brompton World Championships - March 19th - Philly, PA

The Brompton U.S. Championship is returning for the second time to the city of Philadelphia on Saturday 19th March, 2011.

The event is inspired by the Brompton World Championship, first held in Barcelona, Spain in 2006. The BWC has now grown into a bona fide international happening, which attracted more than 750 cyclists for the 2010 event held at Blenheim Palace, England.

Like the U.K. race, the Philadelphia event is limited to riders of the Brompton Folder bicycle. The Philadelphia version debuted with more than 60 riders; some coming from as far away as California, France and Japan!

Riders must race on Brompton folder bicycles and helmets aren’t the only required bit of kit. Just as in the British race, riders must wear a blazer or suit jacket, collared shirt, and tie. Sports gear is not permitted, unless it is hidden by business attire! “Poor dress sense will not be tolerated,” warn the organizers.

If you are a Brompton owner interested in racing, you can register here. For non-Brompton owners, this is still a really fun event to attend and watch. I would highly recommend it for anyone that can make it to Philly!
