Bike Month Events You Should Check Out
May is bike month and that means there are many great events and activities to attend and opportunities to mingle with your fellow cyclists. In an effort to help you find events that interest you, we have complied this listing. This is by no means a comprehensive list, but just some of the highlights. We hope you have the chance to get out and enjoy bike month!
Saturday, May 5th: Ciclovia 5, From Park to Park. Ciclovia returns this year and it is shaping up to be the best yet. The closed course has been extended from Roland Park to Druid Hill Park. For those three miles pedestrians and cyclists are free to enjoy the streets car free. Look for BBW staffers Josh and Meredith who will be riding the Yuba Mundo and providing support for the event. Sunday, May 6th: Monument to Monument Ride. Meet at 7:45 AM at the Baltimore Washington Monument and join an eager and anxious group of riders as they snake their way along quiet roads and paths finally arriving in Washington, DC. After a meal and a return ride, you’ll arrive back in Baltimore feeling you’ve completed a long, challenging journey.
Friday May 11: Ride to The Cylburn Market Day. Meet at the shop at 4 PM for the roughly 6 mile ride along the Jones Falls Trail to the annual Cylburn Arboretum Market Day first time ever Friday night. There will be a $20 entrance fee to Market Day that includes dinner, music and vendors. Please RSVP for this ride specifying if you will be return to BBW or leave on your own. Wednesday, May 16th: Ride of Silence. Meet at 7 PM at the Baltimore War Memorial Plaza next to City Hall. The Ride of Silence will begin in North America and roll across the globe. Cyclists will take to the roads in a silent procession to honor cyclists who have been killed or injured while cycling on public roadways. Although cyclists have a legal right to share the road with motorists, the motoring public often isn’t aware of these rights, and sometimes not aware of the cyclists themselves.Visit this link for more details.
May 18th: Bike to Work Day 2012. Join your fellow bike commuters Friday, May 18th for Bike to Work Day. B2W stations will be set up across the City. We will once again be hosting a Bike to Work Day station here in front of the shop and we would love to see your shining faces. We will have tee shirts, coffee, and breakfast treats for all those who pedal through. For more information about locations or to register visit www.bmorebikes.com.
Sunday, May 20th: Jones Falls Trail Ride and Clean. Meet at 9 AM at the Druid Hill Complex (3100 Swan Drive). Bring your bike and be ready to ride and clean the Jones Falls Trail, picking up trash, removing broken glass, and sprucing up sign beds. Sunday, May 20: Bike Jam. A day long festival of Cycling! Exciting bike races, family fun, group rides, food and live music! All day in Patterson Park.
May 26th: Tweed Ride and Garden Party. Brought to you by The Adultescent Effort at the Village Learning Place and Baltimore Bicycle Works, the Tweed Ride and Garden Party are sure to be a great time. Participants are encouraged to come dressed in their tweedy best and enjoy a brief ride around Charles Village, ending back at the Village Learning Place for a B.Y.O.B. garden party. This event starts at 1pm at the VLP - 2521 St. Paul Street.
