Bike Month Events You Should Check Out
May is bike month and that means there are many great events and activities to attend and opportunities to mingle with your fellow cyclists. In an effort to help you find events that interest you, we have complied this listing. This is by no means a comprehensive list, but just some of the highlights. We hope you have the chance to get out and enjoy bike month!
Saturday, May 5th: Ciclovia 5, From Park to Park. Ciclovia returns this year and it is shaping up to be the best yet. The closed course has been extended from Roland Park to Druid Hill Park. For those three miles pedestrians and cyclists are free to enjoy the streets car free. Look for BBW staffers Josh and Meredith who will be riding the Yuba Mundo and providing support for the event. For more information visit www.rolandpark.org/Ciclovia.
Sunday, May 6th: Monument to Monument Ride. Meet at 7:45 AM at the Baltimore Washington Monument and join an eager and anxious group of riders as they snake their way along quiet roads and paths finally arriving in Washington, DC. After a meal and a return ride, you’ll arrive back in Baltimore feeling you’ve completed a long, challenging journey.
Wednesday, May 16th: Ride of Silence. Meet at 7 PM at the Baltimore War Memorial Plaza next to City Hall. The Ride of Silence will begin in North America and roll across the globe. Cyclists will take to the roads in a silent procession to honor cyclists who have been killed or injured while cycling on public roadways. Although cyclists have a legal right to share the road with motorists, the motoring public often isn’t aware of these rights, and sometimes not aware of the cyclists themselves.Visit this link for more details.
May 18th: Bike to Work Day 2012. Join your fellow bike commuters Friday, May 18th for Bike to Work Day. B2W stations will be set up across the City. We will once again be hosting a Bike to Work Day station here in front of the shop and we would love to see your shining faces. We will have tee shirts, coffee, and breakfast treats for all those who pedal through. For more information about locations or to register visit www.bmorebikes.com.
Sunday, May 20: Bike Jam. A day long festival of Cycling! Exciting bike races, family fun, group rides, food and live music! All day in Patterson Park.
